16.10.2 with Battlefield 1 and Vulkan support

mXDriver 16.10.2 is based on AMD’s Radeon Crimson 16.10.2 for Windows 10 (64 Bit) and brings support for Battlefield 1, Civilization VI and several other games. It also brings some bugfixes so I recommend you upgrade. On my dual D700’s it’s working flawlessly. Vulkan support is also included and runs perfectly with Doom. In a non-crossfire configuration I get approx. 30 fps more with Vulkan than with OpenGL 4.5, that’s impressive! What I recognized is that newer versions of the Vulkan API (1.0.26+) don’t work with the Vulkan Stardust Demo although other applications like Doom work great in Vulkan mode.

If you have troubles running a Vulkan application, which ran with mXDriver 16.9.1 Reloaded (Vulkan API 1.0.21), than it should be sufficient if you replace amdvlk64.dll in C:\Windows\System32 with an older version. mXDriver 16.10.2 comes with version 1.0.26 of amdvlk64.dll, to get version 1.0.21 of amdvlk64.dll you can just use the file from mXDriver 16.9.1 Reloaded. The file is located in the ZIP-Archive under Packages/Drivers/Display/WT6A_INF/B******/ (the * are placeholders for a sequence numbers which change with every release). If this advice does not help you please let me know in the comments section.

  1. thanks, works great with Imac late 2015 R9M395X 4GB. I had trouble to play Fallout 4 with the bootcamp driver. Found your Website installed the 16.9.1 reloaded driver and could play fallout 4. Today I installed 16.10.2

  2. Has sombody tested this driver with the R9 M390 AMD in an iMac late 2015?

    Thank you in advance

  3. BF1 worked on the 16.9.1 reloaded driver. I had a few small hickups, but it was much better that “you video drivers are too old” messages that I got with the 15.x.x drivers that come with Bootcamp. Thanks so much for making this possible mXJoe!

  4. Any chance we could get support for Windows 8.1? I tried manually switching the .inf file from this over to an 8.1 install to no avail 🙁 Thanks for all the hard work!

    • Hi Julian,

Win 8.1 support is possible it’s just more work. I thought that most people switched to Win 10 so I focused on other things. I look into it and keep you updated.

      • I, too, ran Win 8.1 until last week when I found mXJoe’s drivers page on reddit. I upgraded to Windows 10 immediately, because I could see the writing on the wall: If I want decent third party hacks, I should run the OS that the hackers are running.

  5. Joe,

Thank you as always for your continued support for the Apple community who desperately needs gaming drivers for Bootcamp. I cannot express how great this is and cannot wait to test it on my D700 later tonight.

  6. Would it be possible to add support for the R9 390m AMD?

    I really would appreciate it.

    Thank you in advance!

    • It seems like there is an issue with AMD’s driver for the Radeon R9 M390 which also affects the official Boot Camp driver released by Apple/AMD!
On Windows 7 systems M390 seem to work but on newer operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10) users get “Code 43” errors with the official Boot Camp driver, too. Because of this mXDriver cannot deliver support for the Radeon R9 M390 GPU in Apple iMacs as long as these issues aren’t fixed by AMD or Apple.

For further information please see this post in Apple’s forums: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6673968

Stay tuned for any changes in support of Radeon R9 M390 GPUs.

    • I have tried everything. I followed read to every single step but it refuses to installs the driver. Even after using DDU windows won’t install. Tried going to device manager and pointing to driver folder and it says best driver is already installed. Windows doensnt seem to think the driver is compatible with m9 290x. Crimson installer installs everything but the driver so pretty much tried everything.

  7. Has anybody an Idea how to get the “Extended Driver Setttings” to work?!? It loads something but never open a Window or something. MacPro with 2x D700 here. Anything else work.

  8. One more thing. The driver installed fine for my R9 M395 but in the Radeo overview there are older versions mentioned than in your screenshot.

    OpenGL® Version is still:
    6.14.10.13456

    Direct3D® Version is still:
    9.14.10.01221#

    Only OpenCL™ Version is:
    21.19.155.4

Is this normal or did the driver installation fail?

    • I am not sure about this but I know there are other folks out there not using mXDriver and they do have the same differences in version numbering with newer drivers e.g. here. Did you clean up the computer prior installation with DDU?

  9. Hey first of all I’d like to thank you for your excellent work.

However, I am having some issues.
First of all, I uninstalled my old drivers with DDU, and installed the certificate, then the drivers, which all worked great. However, when I restarted the computer for the first time, it froze in the shutting down screen and I had to hold down the power button to shut if off.
After I restart, everything seems fine but I don’t have access to the ‘Advanced’ menu of Firepro. Only the ‘normal’ firepro settings. Trying to get into advanced settings just makes the computer slow for about a second or two and then does nothing.
But that’s only a minor problem. The major problem is the computer will freeze every time I restart or shutdown. It always freezes up completely and I have to hold the power button.

I’m have a D700 btw. And once again thank you for your hard work, and I hope there’s a solution to the problems. Thanks!

    • Hi Aohai,

I have the dual D700, too, and I sometimes have this problem, too. But for the most of the time it works. I think these problems lie deeper in the code and I am not very positive about being able to fix this. One problem is that mXDriver integrates the last official Boot Camp driver with the newest available Radeon Crimson driver and as the Boot Camp driver is nearly a year old we might see more compatibility problems in the future. Although it will get interesting when Apple/AMD releases updated Boot Camp drivers, e.g. for the Polaris based MacBook Pro GPUs. So it won’t be too long until we see an update to the official Boot Camp driver. And that could change everything.

      So stay tuned. 🙂

  10. Hey man,
I can’t thank you enough. The thing is, I’m still on 8.1 and can’t upgrade to 10 without a full format for some reason so I’d love if you keep on adding 8.1 versions as well. I’m sure lots of people besides me also need it.

    • Hi, I released mXDriver 16.11.1, also for Windows 8.1 x64. If you want give it a try and please report problems, if possible.
