Experimental M395X support: mXDriver 16.8.2

mXDriver 16.8.2 is available in three flavours. The usual version and two versions specifically for M395X systems! Yes, you read it right, experimental M395X support is nearing thanks to our user zoda who found a way to merge mXDriver and Apple Boot Camp Driver to make M395X support available. As I don’t own a M395X I cannot test nor confirm it’s working but first reports are quite positive.

M395X users should try M395X Edition One first, if that’s not working please use the M395X Alternate Edition. All other users please use the usual mXDriver. It is very possible that it is not working properly or even doesn’t work at all therefore we need your feedback to make it work (better) in the future! Please don’t hesitate to leave feedback, best with device ID attached.

mXDriver 16.8.2 supports AMD Graphics powered Mac Pros (2013+). Retina iMac and MacBook Pro (2015+) support is currently experimental and might not work! To see all supported GPUs please see listing below.

mXDriver 16.8.2 was made specifically for Mac users running Windows in a Boot Camp environment therefor mXDriver support for Non-Mac-Graphics is limited. Installing mXDriver on systems other than Apple systems is NOT RECOMMENDED.

Currently only FirePros (D300, D500 and D700) seem to work properly other Apple branded GPUs are experimental.

Supported GPUs by mXDriver:

Mac Pro

D300, D500, D700

iMac

M290X, M295X, M380, M390, M395X (experimental)

MacBook Pro

M370X (experimental)

  1. Which driver should I download and install – Edition One or Alternate Edition? I have the latest 27″ iMac with the M395X.

  2. Has anyone tried this hybrid-driver method with a M390 yet? I guess it should work as well. I’ll give it a try tonight and report back.

    • The method does work with the M390 as well. All my usual games Doom, GTA V, Euro Truck 2 etc seem to be running smoothly at higher FPS, but I have do not have a record of my earlier FPS to compare with so take this observation with a large does of salt.

The only glitches i have seen so far are – 3DMark tests fail to run and when I come out of Doom my desktop resolution stays at my lowered in-game resolution (1080p).

    • Another positive observation is that DirectX 12 seems to work with this hybrid-driver method. There’s an option in Rise of Tomb Raider to enable DX12 and with the earlier stock bootcamp driver the game wouldn’t run correctly with the option enabled. Now it works perfectly with DX12!

  3. I can confirm works perfectly with Mac Pro Dual D300, I did it wrong way first time. Well done, many thanks!

  4. The “experimental M395X Edition One” did not work for me – about 2% of the way through installing, the system reboots.

Installing the “experimental M395X Alternate Edition” did work for me on my iMac with the M395X. Device Manager still shows the old driver installed, but I can tell the new driver is in place. I can finally play Far Cry Primal without it freezing up on me.

    • I adjusted the post with an advice to use the alternate driver. Thanks for your feedback!

  5. Am I the only one who has the driver version as 16.300.2511.1001 under the device manager but under the radeon settings it displays 16.8.2?

  6. I had the same results as before with the Edition One drivers, it installed fine, but when I rebooted it wouldn’t get past the load screen. I’ve just installed the alternate version and it seems to be working fine, 55fps on forza 6 at 4k!

    • Whoohoo 55 fps at 4k! I wonder if my D700… well I don’t think D700 is powerfull enough! 😉

I updated the post with an advice to use the alternate driver. Thanks for your feedback!

        • Now my Windows10 install completely ignores advanced startup options, can’t go into safe mode to uninstall using DDU. Pretty desperate right now.

  7. Glad to hear it’s working for others to and thx to Joe for creating an easy to install driver package!
